Martin Luther King, Jr. was one of America's most influential

civil rights activists in the 1960's. He was born in the state of

Georgia, January 15, 1929, and attended segregated schools

as a child. He graduated high school at the age of 15.

Reverend King received a BA from college and attended a

seminary for three years. He was also a pastor in his church.

As a civil rights activist he spread a message of peace and

tolerance, and staged nonviolent protests.

In August of 1963 Reverend King delivered his most famous

speech, "I Have a Dream", in Washington, D.C. to 250,000

people. You can hear the speech here, or you can read it
